From a sample of approximately 700 individuals, dating from the fourth to the thirteenth centuries, we selected seven cases of permanent hip dislocation and four hip subluxations. A description of each case is followed by a possible diagnosis and a short review of the palaeopathological literature. Finally, we try and correlate macroscopic features, their evolution and association with the main possible aetiologies: congenital, traumatic, tuberculous and paralytic.
