During examination of skeletal remains of a tenth century Hungarian cemetery, diagnostic features suggestive of leprosy were found in one case. The pathological changes of the skeleton consisted of rhino‐maxillary changes, concentric diaphyseal remodelling of metatarsal bones and some other features characteristic of leprosy. The differential diagnosis was carried out by macroscopic morphological and radiological methods. This is the first palaeopathological description of leprosy in Hungarian historic anthropological material. The importance of the present work is underlined by the lack of data about leprosy from the period of the Hungarian Conquest in medical history.
