We represent a new numerical method to solve the stationary Navier–Stokes equations in an unbounded domain. This technique consists in coupling the boundary integral and finite element methods. Moreover, we derive the variational formulation and well‐posedness of the coupling method and provide the convergence result for the approximate solution. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
