A mathematical model of coupled plates meeting at an arbitrary angle 0 < θ < π is established. The finite element approximation for the mathematical model is considered, and the optimal error bound is obtained, which shows that the convergence of the approximation is reciprocally proportional to the sine of the angle θ between the two plates. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
