We develop an iterative algorithm for the solution of a finite difference approximation of the biharmonic equation over a rectangular region by using the explicit block iterative method, i.e., box over relaxation scheme. The 4‐ and 9‐point explicit blocks were considered and performance results for the two algorithms are presented.© 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
