“How would I want my kid to be treated by his university if he was an incoming freshman?” That was the question running through Katharine Johnson Suski's mind as she wrote a letter to incoming first‐year students as COVID‐19 began to impact the United States. “I wrote the letter just a couple of days into remote work for our office, when everything felt uncertain and scary,” said Suski, Executive Director of Admissions at Iowa State University. “My son had just returned from picking up his stuff from his residence hall at the University of Kansas and had put his name sign on his bedroom door, which I found extremely sad.”
