NASHVILLE, Tenn. — More than 40 states currently have a statewide goal for degree completion, and many of those states tie funding to meeting those completion goals. “There is a strong likelihood that your state is tying funding for higher education to state completion goals — soon, if they haven't already,” said Steven P. Gentile, associate chief fiscal officer of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Tennessee is a state with ambitious completion goals, with outcomes‐based funding tied to meeting the goals.
