Elaine Allen and Jeff Seaman, in a Babson Research Survey Group report published earlier this year, stated that distance education now is considered mainstream, with more than 25 percent of students in higher education taking at least one online course. Students enrolled exclusively online exceed 12.5 percent of the total number of students. Of the more than 2.8 million students exclusively online, public institutions serve almost half the enrollees. As a land grant institution, the University of Wyoming abides by the mission designated by the Morrill Act of 1862 to offer a practical education that prepares students for life responsibilities. This has long included attention to their emotional well‐being.
