Utah Valley University, the largest public university in Utah, has undergone six name changes during the 75 years since it was founded. UVU has been reclassified from its original status as a community college to a state college to, in 2008, a university. These reclassifications have brought both marketing challenges and opportunities. The university continues to offer the services of a community college. And officials have expanded offerings for adult learners. UVU, which is in the process of adding five new master's programs to its three current master's degrees, also offers extensive certification and noncredit courses. Mike Walker, assistant director of professional education, described enrollment strategies and initiatives UVU has undertaken to boost offerings for adult students. Consider whether UVU's approaches would work at your institution.
