Dynamic identification and monitoring of bridges are dealt with in this paper. Theoretical, numerical and experimental in situ assessments of the problem are presented. Numerical analysis of the monitoring and testing suggested is based on the adoption of the wave approaches. A structural application in situ on attractive cable‐stayed bridge adopting the monitoring approaches suggested is submitted. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
