The behaviour of the C 0 plate elements in modelling edge zone effects is analysed by utilizing the classical and a recently proposed formulation. Boundary layers are shown to develop under the activation of an edge zone moment redistribution mechanism, being part of a more generalized moment redistribution mechanism triggered by the in‐plane twisting stiffness of the model.
