In a recently published paper a finite element based iterative method was introduced for the solution of the eigenvalue problem of stationary cracks. 1 In this paper we give the theoretical basis of this iterative method and we show why it converges and how it could be extended to more complex fracture problems. The cases of cracks at interfaces are illustrated.
