A finite‐element discretization of a layered stratum is considered. The response to a time‐harmonic load at a single node is calculated. For all practical purposes, the result is obtained in closed form in the case of two dimensions (line load) while the Fast Fourier Transform is employed in the three‐dimensional problem (point load).
