A procedure to discretize explicit enthalpy formulations for one‐dimensional planar phase change problems is derived, which removes numerical oscillations in temperature and phase front position. The technique is based on an enthalpy balance for the control volume containing the phase front in combination with linearized temperature profiles near the phase front. A continuous casting solidification problem and a problem with known analytical solution are applied to demonstrate the effect of the scheme.
