A new method for solving structural dynamics problems has been proposed by the author in a separate paper. 1 This method of solution produces a high order real symmetric eigenvalue problem of the form ( A − λ B − λ 2 C − λ 3 D …) U = 0. An algorithm for solving such an eigenvalue problem using simultaneous iteration is presented in this paper. Methods of accelerating the convergence and reducing the amount of computation are also described. A numerical example is given in which the algorithm is used to calculate the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a framed structure.
