The advantages and disadvantages of a variety of axisymmetric elements are examined by comparing various elements from accuracy, computer time, and stress interpretation viewpoints. In addition, various techniques of stress averaging and/or smoothing are discussed from an acuracy and a computational effort standpoint. Numerical results are presented for three problems having classical solutions.
