A method is described whereby the formulation for non‐conforming bending elements includes the work dissipated across the inter‐element boundaries. For the examples considered, this correction is shown to lead to a significant improvement in accuracy at little extra cost. Since the solution procedure is based on an iterative technique, the method would be particularly suitable if applied to non‐linear problems.
