Many years ago when Lucent Technologies began to experience financial difficulties it spun off its commercial wireless products under the Agere Systems umbrella. As part of the evolution of Agere Systems towards a focus on optoelectric components and integrated circuits, the ORiNOCO product line found a new home when it was acquired by Proxim Corporation, a leading provider of wireless solutions. After working with an earlier ORiNOCO access point many years ago it appears that the old product line was considerably revised and updated to the point where the AP‐700, which is the focus of this column, represents a complex wireless access point that can support just about any wireless requirement your organization may have.
