MPLS technology enables IP networks to accept the challenge raised by emerging communication paradigms. This paper describes a nonlinear model with path capacity as design variables and space priority as constraints. The analysis shows that the close‐form solution exists if traffic flows are allocated by an independent protocol. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley &Sons, Ltd.
