VSAT networks were developed in the mid‐1980s as an alternative to terrestrial communications and can offer a cost advantage because linking two nodes via satellite costs the same, regardless of their distance from each other. This article will outline the basic elements of a VSAT network and describe some of the methods used to manage it.
