American foundations are adapting their giving strategies in the wake of major changes to national policies on immigration and asylum seekers, according to a new report from Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees. With the number of displaced people around the world at an all‐time high, many of the long‐standing protections for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers are being dismantled by Trump administration policies, the GCIR said. And while traditionally, foundations have relied on government‐funded programs and infrastructure in providing support to refugees, asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors, these critical resources are disappearing, leaving funders and their nonprofit partners scrambling to fulfill their missions.
