There are many ways in which nonprofit organizations are similar to their for‐profit counterparts, not the least of which is the need for their products and services to truly meet the needs of their constituencies. In the private sector, businesses routinely introduce new products or modify existing ones to keep abreast of market trends—if not, their sales will decline. Nonprofits, meanwhile, occasionally need to modify their programs to make sure they are making headway in their missions—otherwise, donations dry up.
