Nonprofit leaders are increasingly aware of the importance of acquiring and developing talented staff who add long‐term value to the organization. Just like their for‐profit counterparts, nonprofit executives are facing a tight labor market as the economy rebounds, coupled with an expected onslaught of retirements that will leave charities across the country scrambling to fill seats in the coming years. But they can't let that pressure lead to poor hiring, experts say. Instead, they need to avoid some common talent‐acquisition mistakes that can have major repercussions in the short and long term.
