Rapid injection cystometry is performed by injecting 100 ml of saline into the bladder within three seconds. with continuous pressure recording. The same injection is repeated after the pressure stabilizes. up to bladder capacity which has been determined by a slow CMG performed prior to the test. This test was performed on 70 male patients. Following the rapid rise in intravesical pressure due to the viscoelastic properties of the bladder. three types of detrusor contractions were observed. Type A were single contractions of short amplitude and duration and were always seen in patients with peripheral nerve lesions. Type B were single. coordinated sustained contractions while Type C consisted of polyphasic contractions of variable amplitude and duration. The putential diagnostic usefulness of rapid cystometry is discussed.
