Values of the momentum flux in the urinary stream and the urinary flow rate have been measured in 58 boys. The momentum flux is related to the flow rate as expected theoretically. The momentum flux is only weakly related to age and to the presence of detrusor instability. Patients with meatal stenosis tend to have a relatively high momentum flux, but the predictive value of momentum flux measurement is poor unless combined with a urodynamic study of micturition. We do not consider the measurement to have much clinical value in boys.
