Abstract Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in rural Manitoba, this essay challenges notions of rural mobilities as either outward or novel. Looking back to Canadian histories of colonization, the essay calls for a view of rural mobilities as a continuous and consistent modality of capital accumulation and state formation.
