The diverse clinical manifestation of fascial inflammation are reviewed including the entities of eosinophilic fasciitis, fascial inflammation in association with connective tissue diseases, fibrositis, nodular fasciitis, and necrotizing fasciitis. The neuromuscular clinician is encouraged to consider the possibility of fascial inflammation when evaluating patients with painful, aching extremities. A simple technique for including a fascial specimen when performing a routine muscle biopsy is described.
