The field of neuromuscular (NM) and electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine requires a universal language to communicate effectively. It is for this reason that American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) created a glossary of terms. The original glossary was produced in 1980 with updates in 1987 and 2001. This new 2015 edition includes over 50 new terms related to ultrasound along with seven original ultrasound images for illustration. The glossary has also been updated to include the changes made to anatomical terms based on the Terminologia Anatomica which is the international standard on human anatomic terminology.
