We compared in vivo and in vitro Hahn echo T 2 measurements in rat lungs in both imaging and nonimaging modes. All measurements could be characterized by multiexponential functions consisting of either two or three exponentials. Essentially the same values of the time constants were observed for spontaneously breathing rats and for excised lungs. © 1991 Academic Press, Inc.
