An investigation was made of 5‐fluorouracil metabolism in rat liver by 19 F MRS. Fluoronucleotide synthesis increased markedly with liver injury and accelerated with uracil treatment, indicating that 19 F MRS may serve as a new method for evaluating liver viability. © 1991 Academic Press, Inc.
