RF pulses employing the principle of adiabatic fast passage are finding increasing application with surface coils. A small modification to existing AFP pulses that allows the excitation angle to be chosen largely independently of B 1 strength is described here. Rapid 3D imaging applications of such pulses are presented. © 1989 Academic Press, Inc.
