The echo planar imaging (EPI) method and related variants of this technique can produce complete two‐dimensional images from the data collected in a single experiment lasting a fraction of a second. EPI methods are used at 0.5 T to produce snapshot images of the human head with a suatial resolution of less than 2 mm. © 1988 Academic Press, Inc.
