An image reconstruction technique for echo‐planar imaging is proposed. This technique combines odd and even numbered echo signals. It is thus possible to reduce the frequency of the time‐modulated gradient used in echo‐planar imaging by 5070, and to reduce its amplitude by almost 50% for sinusoidal gradient modulation. © Academic Press, Inc.
