Remodeling of the uterus is essential for successful implantation and mammalian embryonic development. Laird et al. (this issue) investigated the molecular basis of implantation in marsupial pregnancy, and found that the inner epithelium of the uterus becomes reinforced by the molecule Talin (green; nuclei in blue) in the brushtail possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) to prevent embryonic invasion of the uterus .
