The proteins secreted from the accessory sex glands are important for interacting with and modulating sperm function. For example, Regucalcin, a secreted calcium‐regulating protein (green), is highly expressed by the glandular epithelium of buffalo prostate gland shown in this image. Harikrishna et al. (this issue) identified the suppressive effect of Regucalcin during in vitro capacitation of buffalo spermatozoa .
