In many mammalian species, sperm interact within the female reproductive tract or inside the epididymal lumen to form sperm conjugates, such as the mouse sperm rosettes obtained from cauda epididymal shown here by scanning electron microscopy. Monclus and Fornes (in this issue) review the available literature concerning mammals sperm conjugates to help decipher the underlying purpose of the conjugation behavior .
