A single mouse oocyte whose transcriptome was amplified, sequenced, and compared to individual transcriptomes of twenty other oocytes from two different genotypes. The oocyte is shown within a heat map from the gene‐by‐gene expression analysis of all detected transcripts from these oocytes. Reich et al. (this issue) test the transcript variance among individual oocytes and determine that they cluster by genotype.
