In many seasonally breeding individuals, changes in photoperiod exposure regulate gonadal function. Shahed and Young (this issue) examined mRNA and protein levels of inhibin‐α and other follicular growth factors in Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) to better understand how quiescent ovaries can rapidly return to function during photostimulated recrudescence. Immunostaining for inhibin‐α declines in regressed ovaries (upper tissue section, red stain), and peaks in granulosa cells of preantral and antral follicles during ovarian recrudescence (lower tissue section).
