Exposure to metals, such as nickel, can contribute to male subfertility, but the mechanisms involved are poorly understood. Glutamate‐ammonia ligase (GLUL) was identified by Sun et al. (in this issue) as a prominent testicular nickel‐binding protein whose activity is inhibited by nickel. Here, GLUL (green) is found in interstitial cells of the seminiferous tubules. Section was counterstained for nuclear DNA (DAPI, blue) and sperm (acetylated tubulin in tails, red).
