Configurational assignment of seven synthesized N ‐arylsulfonylimines of α‐polychloroaldehydes has been carried out by means of experimental measurements and high‐level ab initio calculations of their 13 C 13 C, 13 C 1 H and 15 N 1 H spin–spin coupling constants. The title compounds were shown to exist in solution solely in the form of E isomers, in line with thermodynamic reasoning. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
