HPLC– 1 H NMR has been used to study the tissue‐specific distribution of phenylphenalenones, polyphenolic natural products of Xiphidium caeruleum , a neotropical member of the Haemodoraceae plant family. The present results provide insight into the occurrence of phenylphenalenone‐related compounds in root segments of whole plants and different in vitro culture lines of the same species.
