A detailed procedure for analysing the 1 H n.m.r. spectra of two isomeric methylcyclopentadienes, two dimethylcyclopentadienes and 3‐methylindene is reported. Finite perturbation INDO calculations are used to discuss the conformational features of the long range proton coupling constants.
