Several compounds of the general formula R 1 R 2 C(OH)CH 2 OR containing different geminal group systems have been investigated in proton and carbon magnetic resonances at variable temperatures. The role of steric factors, viz. of the size of substituents and the distances between different parts of the molecules, have been discussed.
