Complete analyses of the 400 MHz 1 H NMR spectra of 47 chlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were carried out in order to obtain the 1 H chemical shifts and coupling constants. The 1 H chemical shifts and the coupling constants on the biphenyl ring are interpreted by additive contributions from the substituent effects of chlorine atoms.
