A new method for the measurement of partial heteronuclear NOE effects is proposed, and its application to the elucidation of unknown structures is demonstrated. In contrast to the basic experiment with simultaneous irradiation of all proton multiplet lines with a relatively high decoupler power, the individual lines are irradiated successively several times using a very low decoupler power. An improved selectivity in the proton domain combined with higher sensitivity in the carbon domain are the main attributes of this powerful technique.
