1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy were utilized for the identification of carcinogenic and mutagenic N ‐hydroxy(acyloxy)‐2‐acetylaminofluorenes, and the inactive products derived from their thermal/enzymatic rearrangement involving N→C‐1/C‐3 migration of the hydroxy (acyloxy) group.
