1 H and 13 C chemical shifts are reported for the condensation products of 1‐amino‐2‐phenylazonaphthalene‐4‐sulphonic acid with benzaldehyde and trans ‐cinnamaldehyde, two model compounds for sweetening agents. Assignments, based on several two‐dimensional techniques, confirm the naphthimidazole skeleton for both compounds.
