In this issue, Höfler has proposed a statistical method to determine the specificity of an association of two disorders (A and B) when A is also associated with a third disorder, C. Questions are raised concerning Höfler's approach. It is argued that the proposed measures suggest a problem that would be better addressed using other methods. Copyright © 1999 Whurr Publishers Ltd.
