The possibilities and the conditions for the creation of laminar axial electron beams with any desired electrical and geometrical characteristics have been investigated. The problem of synthesis has been formulated in a general way. A number of numerical results for different physical situations has been obtained. The principal possibility of arbitrary dense laminar electron beams forming has been shown. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
