Realization and characterization of LiNbO 3 microwave integrated optics coherence modulators is presented here. Optical path differences longer than 1 mm, low control voltages, and microwave operating frequencies have been achieved. The devices were tested in a coherence‐modulated experimental setup to determine their high‐speed transmission performances. These devices can be used in high‐capacity coherence multiplexed optical transmissions. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
